Sure, except that it will cause breakage as it writes places as root (because it can) when it was expected that the permissions of files would prevent the files from being clobbered.

If you run as root in the GUI you're practically begging to run `diskutil repairPermissions` after. And even that's not going to resurrect overwritten files.
