Hi Folks,
We've run into a strange problem recently with our many IP printers: all
clients had been setup to print via LPD and hostnames/static IP addresses.
This worked for years without a hitch until recently, so the "workaround"
applied has been to remove the IP printing item and add the printer via
AppleTalk or Bonjour.
The IP-printing related problems were 1) jobs took a very very long time to
print, 2) many jobs were sent but never printed, 3) some print jobs time
out, and 4) some print jobs seem to have stopped in the middle.
So here's my question: is there a big difference between LPD printing vs
AppleTalk printing? Is one clearly a better choice than the other? We had
always chosen IP/LPD printing because it was less "chatty" than AppleTalk or
Bonjour, but maybe they are better options....
Many thanks for your comments and suggestions.
Best, Doug
