Can anyone tell me what this means relating to my problem, or
whether it relates at all? I do have Spotlight indexing turned on
for my shares in Server Admin, and in the past I've tried forcing
the system to reindex without success, though I have not tried
that again today.
Are your shares being hosted by Server 10.5.x or earlier than that ?
Hosted on 10.5.3 server (as of this morning). This was a new
install of 10.5 server, I didn't upgrade from a previous version, so
the shares have always been handled by this system.
For shares, the index is meant to be built on the server. The
client passes the search request to the server which returns a
response.
So my expectations aren't erroneous, apparently. Just for laughs a
couple of weeks ago, I went over to one of my clients, mounted the
AFP share, added it to the Privacy pane in Spotlight Preferences,
then removed it. I didn't expect it to attempt to index the share,
and of course it didn't. Was worth a shot, though. :-)
Just as an update, reindexing the drive doesn't seem to help. Is
there any way I can find the Spotlight index for that volume and
review it with a text editor? I'm wondering now if the indexing might
be failing at some point. Grabbing at straws now, I guess.
