For what it's worth, I also had some trouble upgrading my test server's mail setup - still haven't finished analysing the causes but after getting the system running manually via launchctl and serveradmin, i found it was still rejecting mail due to the addition of some extra controls on smtpd_recipient_restrictions and (i think) the fact that i'm not using virtual mail domains.

note to self: before upgrading it's well worth digging into the installer package and doing a diff against your important /etc/*.conf files to see what they're planning to futz with.. I'm planning on upgrading a production server tomorrow, will report back what I find..
