Re: 10.5.3: Server Mail gets even worse, kills incoming SMTP



OK, progress. Finally. :-)

A post on the discussion list (<http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7286029#7286029>) suggested that the /etc/services file might be the problem. This file is dated last September. As suggested, I changed the urd 456/tcp line to smtps 456/tcp. This stopped the errors occurring in the log.

I'm unsure about making the change permanent without more understanding of what I this change does and why it's needed.

So, I guess the issue now is this: is it worth trying to figure out what else Apple changed that required a change to an unchanged Leopard 10.5.0 services file, and why? It is now proven that the change that caused the errors was not master.cf or services.
