I seem to remember from a Tiger server class I took that I was
possible to use a saved plist file from Apple Server Assistant to
automatically setup your server once it had been imaged.
I'm doing a headless install of Leopard tomorrow and I have created a
plist file that contains all the setup information (serial number,
password, etc.) saved using Server Assistant with the ethernet address
of the machine as the name of file (ie. 001122aabbcc.plist).
I'l be initiating the installation using Server Assistant on another
computer via a local ethernet connection and using the first 8 digits
of the serial number as the password, as is the usual procedure for a
headless install. From what I understand, if you leave the plist file
somewhere on an attached hard drive or USB thumb drive, when the
server reboots after the initial install, it will look for the plist
file and if it finds one, magically run through all the steps that you
entered in beforehand using the Server Assistant.
I have an attached XRaid and was going to leave the plist file at the
root of the raid directory.
Surely I'm remembering this incorrectly because it can't be that easy.
Has anyone else heard of this, or done it successfully?
Thanks in advance,
...adam
