XServe G5 with Promise VTrak RAID

Hi,

Our company needs to add direct-connect (no XSAN) storage to a fileserver which is an XServe G5 with an LSI7202XP (M9274G/C) 2Gb FC card. We want to purchase an Apple Promise VTrak now, but cannot reassign or purchase an Intel XServe (with an LSI7404EP (MB356G/A) 4Gb FC card) for a few months.

Promise pre-sales states "its compatible, but we may or may not be able to provide technical support, depending upon the issue". Apple via http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1769 states "Do not use" ... although it does not define the difference between "Do not use" and "No" ... or why. XSAN2 documentation states it is compatible with XServe G5, Promise VTRack, and Sanbox 5200 (which we also have).

Is anyone running an XServe G5 with a direct-connected Apple-Promise VTrak, without XSAN?

Is anyone running an XServe G5 with a switch-connected Apple-Promise VTrak, without XSAN?
