Re: XServe G5 with Promise VTrak RAID

Britt,

I am tossing out an idea and soliciting feedback at the same time. Has anyone had any experience with these guys:

http://getactivestorage.com/index.php

It sounds like they may offer the next best thing to Apple's officially blessed Vtrak systems in that they even leverage Apple's monitoring tools and maybe some former Apple XRaid Engineers.

I do not know about their compatibility per se but thought I would throw the idea out there to see if anyone has any experience as we too are looking to add some DAS device to our xServe G5.

Nope. From their web site:

What Fibre Channel cards are 'approved'?

We have certified the Apple 2Gb and 4Gb dual and quad port Fibre Channel cards.(Apple Part
Numbers: MA900G/A, MB355G/A, MB355G/A) Based on need and customer request we can prioritize
testing other cards.

Alternatively we have found some older models to not be compatible, specifically the following:

     Vendor: LSILogic
     Product: LSI7202XP
     Revision: Firmware 1.1.11.0, Fcode 1.00.30
