What I am doing is running a number of web sites and they all need to
resolve to one IP.
I put in the machine and then assign aliases to that address. But once
I get beyond 15 alias entries
it stops working. I need to get about 50 alias entries in place
altogether.

You could try manually editing the configuration files if you have not already.

Otherwise have you considered moving your DNS services to another box running the latest version of BIND and Webmin for GUI configuration/ modification of the settings if required?
