Re: Survey: XServe mail or other

Hi,

I chose Zimbra (the free version) to run our mail, calendar stuff.

Its completely scriptable via there zmprov utility. i manage it via some Perl/shell scripts.

The free version uses CalDAV for iCal/Outlook integration and there pay for version supports iSync/MAPI.

Its pretty comprehensive but a draw back with the version I am using (v5) is that while it has external LDAP support, it doesn't support true external directory integration.

They are working on v6 which may have complete external LDAP/AD support but I don't mind as my work around is better for us (the env I am in) anyways.

My workaround is using various scripts to Sync external LDAP (mine is OpenLDAP) with Zimbra.

Basically users are created via Drupal based intranet and the accounts are created in OpenLDAP and Zimbra respectively.

Not only does it offer all the posters requirements, it offers full Mac integration and syncing with iCal and Address Book as well as Outlook. Furthermore, Blackberry BES, iPhone push email and ActiveSync handsets are also supported.

It also offers the best webmail front end bar none, and auto- archives emails at a specified interval allowing an admin to restore a user's mailbox to a particular snapshot,

It's pretty damn good, surprised no one recommended it, and furthermore will install on Leopard 10.5,

best,

Subject: Survey: XServe mail or other

I have been looking at the mail issue and setup a new server.

My options are as follows:

Cyrus lean Sieve

Dovecot To be more compatible when Snow Leopard comes out, still have to lean Sieve

Kerio Web managed which I like. Cost but not bad.

ComuniGatePro Cost, have used it in the pass. Looks like it's getting to pricey. An upgrade is more than Kerio

Eudora Lower cost, but still have to learn Sieve.

I have been using a system that allows me to add/remove users and domains via a web interface, as 95% of my support is done from off site.

I have had problems getting Avelsive to work with Squirrelmail and have tried to version. Get errors when accessing it.

At this time I have spent more of my time to get Cyrus working with webmail and sieve than a paid solution what have cost.

What's the list recommendation on this?

Are there others that I should look at?

Cyrus stores each mail in its own file, where Dovecot and other use the mbox. Which is the way of the future?
