Here is the issue I'm having, that I can't seem to get my head wrapped around, as it only happens to one user.

When this user sends an email from their computer at work, everything works fine, and if they take that computer to Panera, or any other WiFi hot spot, everything also works fine.

However, when they take their computer home, they are unable to send messages.

Your problem is probably that your users are submitting mail to the server using port 25. Many ISPs block port 25 allowing only mail submissions to their own mail servers on that port.

To get around this you need to set up your server to accept mail submission on the mail submission port 587, what you should have done in the first place. Then have all your users re-configure their mail clients to use port 587 instead of port 25 for SMTP mail.

Not having any idea about port 587 for mail submission, I did some googling about using port 587. One of the first links I found was the RFC that describes the reason for and specs for this change. I noticed that the RFC was dated 1998.

When was this RFC "made law"? Have I been living under a rock for the last 11 years or is this change just coming into common practice?

Thanks, Phil
