if you don't have an Open Directory, why dou you create your records into the LDAPv3 tree ?
you have to use the Local node

I do have an OpenDirectory, but I do not have a replica. Sorry if my message was unclear.

The OD master is on the 10.5 box.

I just wanted to mention the problems seems to have started after starting to use the 10.6 tools.

dscl localhost

control the settings in Directory Utility (/System/Library/ CoreServices), recreate them, i think you don't have the good mapping

Ok, will have a look! Thanks!

nice day Stefano

I have two Mac OS X servers. Both run latest 10.5.x software. I upgraded the one that is NOT the open directory master to 10.6.x, and it is not a replica either. Just client.

While doing all of this, I also upgraded the Server Admin tools to the 10.6 versions, as they should be able to work with 10.5 servers.

I create normally users using the dscl command, that import an XML file.

But, while doing the above, I now detect that some records are not created, and when trying to create a record using WorkGroupManager (both the 10.5 version on the OD master, that runs 10.5, and a client running 10.6 using the 10.6 version of the tools), I get the same error, eDSRecordNotFound.

If I try to create users manually, I get the same error:

srv01#dscl localhost
> cd /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/Users
/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/Users > auth diradmin
Password:
/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/Users > create birgitta02
<main> attribute status: eDSRecordNotFound
<dscl_cmd> DS Error: -14136 (eDSRecordNotFound)
/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/Users > quit
Goodbye
srv01#

Any suggestions on what to do?

When googling for the error, I find all different kind of suggestions, like restarting the LDAP daemon by turning on and off and on SSL, just scrap the database and recreate it. Etc. No *real* answers unfortunately.
