I am interested know what alternatives to SquirrelMail people are
using, why, whether it was a good choice and how difficult it is to
use a non-default email system on OS X 10.5/6 server.
SquirrelMail is nothing magic. It's a IMAP client with a web GUI that
talks to a IMAP server. That said you could install any other IMAP
client just the same way you might choose Eudora, Outlook, or
Thunderbird over Mail.app
This said, SquirrelMail is a very, very popular FOSS.
