If i had to guess I would say its because Windows 7 is trying to use an authentication method (specifically NTLMv2) that the OS server is not supporting. You can change this setting on the Windows 7 machine. Haven't messed much with 7 but you should be able to access the security policy settings by going to run and typing secpol.msc Click on Local Policies and then Security Options. Look for Network Security: Lan Manager Authentication Level. Change this to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated" Try to reconnect
