Cisco VPN 10.6.6 problem only on new MacBooks & MacBook Pros

Hi all.

I'm stuck, so I'm throwing out a wild query here in hopes someone might have experienced this particular problem with the built-in Cisco VPN and applications failing to launch under 10.6.5 and 10.6.6. This only happens on our new crop of MacBook and MacBook Pro hardware, but not on older non-unibody models. I can replicate this behavior, so I know it's not a fluke. Here's a typical list of open files and ports for an app, in this case Word 12.2.8, when it hangs during launch:

When the VPN isn't pegged, it launches just fine. In fact, if the user (managed mobile or local) launches the problematic apps before running up the VPN connection, they perform normally. The problem manifests itself on all Office apps, as well as FMP 11.0v3, and some older items, such as Acrobat Professional 6.0.6. Browsers launch and run just fine.

The process seems to hang when it's running a network check, from what I've found by searching them thar Inner Nets, but no one yet seems to have solved the issue. The console log shows no interesting data.

All ideas, no matter how seemingly-tangential, will gladly be entertained. As you can imagine, this is driving my users nuts. Even gentle reminders to post to other lists are welcome.
