Re: Need Help with Samba

Jeremy,
Thanks for the quick response.

First off, if this box is on your home network, you might want to use
user=share and clear text passwords. I have had nothing but trouble with
encrypted passwords. Your 'shares' look fine and so does the contect of
smb.conf.

I have no choice but to use encrypted passwords. I'm trying to network to an Audiotron mp3 player which is a WindowsCE device and also a Dell PC which runs WindowsME. I have to run with encrypted passwords for both of these (especially the Audiotron).

On the Winders PC, in the address bar put:

\\IP.of.the.mac example: \\192.168.0.100

And see what happens.

I'll try it tonight when I get home.

What is the output of smbstatus?

I'll also try when I get home.

I did a quick google search for "tree connect failed: code0" and this is what came back from http://faqchest.dynhost.com/linux/samba-l/smb-00/smb-0011/smb00110512_17561.html .
The excerpt isn't too hopeful (it was from a samba team guy).

" According to the usenet this one ("tree connect failed: code 0")
almost always has to do something with a mismatch between an older
Linux kernel and a newer glibc. Well, this is clearly NOT your
problem. :-) But indeed it points to some mismatch between your system
and the Samba binary you installed."

If this is the case, I'd have to get Takashi Oe to help since he compiled the Mach Kernel that I'm using. In other words, it isn't a simple configuration file problem that I can fix by myself.

Anyone have an opinion about this solution?

Thanks for you help.
