Installing MkLinux on a Performa 6214 (was "MkLinux Installation")

Bruce,

I'm confused about your confusion. <g> Indulge me as I do not remember
your original post nor what your level of Mac knowledge is.

It's been a while since my PPC8100 died, but MkLinux supports the
built-in Ethernet on those Macs that had Ethernet built into the
motherboard. That is different than adding a network card to the NuBus,
PDS, and/or infamous Comm slot.

The Performa series were low-end, low-cost Macs marketed as a complete
solution for the home market. One of the ways Apple cut costs was to
*NOT* include built-in Ethernet on Performas.

As Per Ola Ingvarsson also posted, using the monolithic kernel *MIGHT*
work on your Performa. To do that, you need to check out the
LinuxPPC-NuBus web site <http://nubus-pmac.sourceforge.net/> and
subscribe to that list. Now, be aware that Takashi Oe, the main man
behind that development effort, has been offline since August 1st due to
moving.

Or ditch that Performa (a pox of them! lol) and pick up a Mac that's not
such a headache. Lots of people have been using PPC6100's for exactly
the same purposes you want. Probably could pick one up, and extra ram,
for less than $100.

HTH.

Pete
