Annoying, perhaps, but it didn't lock out
third-party HDs (assuming they complied with SCSI spec).

Not the connector, but the silly HD-SC-setup locked them out. And as for
the 6100: I tried to add another internal drive, so I would have one drive
by 'Apple', and one by IBM. Wiring, IDs and termination werde definitely
correct, nonetheless the 6100 instantly refused to boot.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure my 6100 has a non-Apple boot disk. I had some problems initially, but it turned out that I had put a jumper in the wrong place and the thing wasn't spinning up right. OTOH, it might have been an Apple HD, but I really doubt it.

Maybe the second hard drive was too much for the power supply? I know that other people have successfully put two HDs in a 6100, though.

(Apologies for any speeling mistakes, my keyboard has taken on a mind of it's own... makes it especially hard to type in my passphrase. d-:)
