Ethernet Inteface Problems

I am having problems with my Ethernet interface (eth0) one my Macintosh
G3/300MHz (Minitower). I do the "ifup eth0" command and it doesn't say that
it has problems, but during initial startup I get a "FAILED" marker. I cannot
ping my PC. I am required to use DHCP whit these machines because of my
internet connection. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate
it.
