RE: mklinux pb1400

AFAIK, nearly -ALL- successful Powerbook installs (PB5300, PB1400) were
accomplished by copying the files to an HFS partition on the hard drive,
then running the install from there. People used SCSI-mode, FTP from the
MacOS, or copied the files from the CD (again, using the MacOS) to get the
files there.

This has been done w/ MkLinux and Linux-PPC on NuBus Macs
<http://nubus-pmac.sourceforge.net/> folks.

As for the Sonnent G3 card, IIRC (and someone -PLEASE- correct me if I'm
wrong) it isn't supported.

HTH.

I am going through the same process of trying to get mk running on a
powerbook 1400. My CD-Rom appears to be one of the afflicted. I have
changed lilo.conf to look for boot from an atapi cd in a powerbook 1400
expbay, but no luck.

How else can you install onto the drive if not from cd? I have an
upgraded HD (20 gigs) and as I recall SCSI disk mode doesn't work for
drives larger than 4 GB on the 1400. If anyone has other info or
ideas, I would be excited to hear them ;)

Also, does anyone know if upgraded pb1400s have particular issues? I
have a sonnet 333 G3 upgrade and I would love to know if anyone is
running a similar system under linux. I am really switching this old
powerbook over to make it more stable, but I would love to hear if
people see the sonnet cards hard freezing under linux the way they tend
to under MacOS.

Best,

Ryan
