I've tried moving on a couple of times, but MPW remains a comfortable place for me. One of these
days I'll really have to learn bash scripting, but it probably won't be until I get one of the Intel Macs
and can no longer run MPW.

Thanks for your ideas and for your willingness to help. Eventually I would like to write some kind of
tool to replace both the built-in backup and equal commands, but that will have to wait. The script
should work in the meantime.
