Re: PDE and printer serial number

Hi Paul,

I for one would really appreciate that enhancement. This would make Tioga queues consistent with USB PostScript printers that use CUPS. Consistency and orthogonality are both good things!

Jim,

No. Based on my understanding of what you need, my recommendation is to use the queue id instead of the serial number. Under consideration for a future OS release is for PMPrinterGetDeviceURI() to return usb://<mfg>/<mdl>?<ser> for Tioga PMs instead of file:///dev/null. That would give you the printer serial number.

Is there any way for a PDE to get access to a printer's serial number before
a print job has started? I know the PM gets this info passed to it at
initialize time, but I need to handle multiple printers and know before a
job starts what a given printer's serial number is. Is this possible?

Thanks.
