Re: Errors Not Displayed in OS X 10.2.4

Robert,

The snippet from your error_log does not show an error message reported by your PM. I would expect to see an entry that reads "fatal: "Door open\r\rClose the printer door.\r(Error 7)". It looks like your PM exited prematurely but from your description, it's hard to tell where the problem lies.

When our printer reports an error, we create a notification dictionary,
with a kPMEventCodeKey of kPMEventErrorOccurred, a kPMErrorCodeKey with a
CFNumber in the range -1000 to -1012 or so, and some CFString text under
the keys kPMErrorExplanationErrorKey and kPMErrorTextKey. Under OS X
10.1.5, an error alert is displayed, with our ErrorText within the alert.
Under OS X 10.2.3, nothing is displayed -- the queue simply stops. The
below was captured from the Console window and error_log under OS X 10.2.4:

console.log:
2003-02-25 17:19:16.440 loginwindow[370] Could not find image named `bang'.

error_log:

I think we used to get alerts to display in the past (OS X 10.2.1 or so).
Has something changed, or am I doing something wrong? (The explanation text
is "Someone crossed the streams!", while the error text is of the form
"Door open\r\rClose the printer door.\r(Error 7)". Also, what happens if I
remove the ErrorCodeKey and ExplanationKey?)
