Re: Short printer names?

Eric,

Once a queue is created, there's no way to change its name. You can change the name that's displayed in Print Center and the Print dialog, but that's not going to help with your issue. The only workaround I can offer is to manually create a queue using the Advanced browser. The text you enter in the Device Name field becomes the queue name. You might want to try posting your question the the CUPS list as well (http://lists.easysw.com/mailman/listinfo).

Howdy,

I have two printers connected to my Mac that I would like to share with a PC via Samba. I uncommented the printer section of samba.conf and now I can see both printers from the PC but both of the names are truncated because they are too long. Does anyone know how to assign a nickname to those printers either in CUPS or Samba that would be short enough to work? My efforts have not been successful so for.

Thanks a bunch!
