Re: pmJobStreamGetNextBandProc seems slow.

We too can suffer from extremely long return times with the callback pmJobStreamGetNextBandProc. With some of our larger VectorWorks documents the call back can take over fifteen minutes. With an A0 document this results in print times taking hours compared to minutes under Mac OS Classic. Under Clasic we received the QuickDraw calls directly and could work our large format magic(tm)*

I believe the amount of time taken correlates to the time taken to redraw the document's PDF. The more efficient the applications print loop and resulting PDF output, the smaller the wait time for pmJobStreamGetNextBandProc to return.

To help improve the situation, without needing to affect the application, I would like to see a method of changing the banding size in-between calls to pmJobStreamGetNextBandProc. At the moment we only have one opportunity to set the banding size.

By having a dynamic banding size, we would be able to monitor the time required per band and then weigh up the speed vs memory balance on-the-fly. If a document's bands can be supplied within a reasonable amount of time then we could reduce the individual band size. Alternatively, if the bands take in excess of a given time threshold, then we could increase the band size appropriately to minimise the time we sit idle waiting for the next block of data.
