cgpdftoraster performance

I am evaluating the performance of cups against tioga for large
format printing. I have created a file printer (changed the URI to point to
a file) and a PPD that just uses the cgpdftoraster filter. The ppd is just a
copy of the pcl-desnj-2500.ppd with the cupsfilter line changed.

While testing I have found the performance to be quite poor, being
something like two times slower than our Tioga driver for the same file,
page size and resolution. Looking at the process viewer while printing I
have seen that most of the processing time is taken by cgpdftoraster and I
was wondering if there could be any missing setting that I should have used
in the ppd.

I also noticed that the filter is not using 100% of it4s cpu and I
don4t know where that limitation comes from. ?Any ideas?
