Matching gzipped PPD files

Hi,

I am working on a custom PBM. While trying to find matching PPD files for my
printer, I use the call "ppdMatchPrinter ( )" declared in PPDLib.h. This
call matches unzipped PPD file quite well but fails in case the PPD file is
stored in gzipped form. As most of the PPD files are stored in gzipped form,
I don't understand why this call does not work for the same.

Is there some alternate call which works for gzipped files too ?
