Re: PPD Product keyword for CUPS raster driver

Hi all,

Thank you for the answer, Serg.

I have additional questions.

- Will PSU "add printer" support PAP/Rendezvous raster CUPS drivers on Tiger?
(I hear it is supported for USB on Panther.)
I hope this, because lpadmin & http://localhost:631 are not user-friendly.

- Is it possible to realize this on Panther if I wrote our own custom PAP/Rendezvous PBM&IOM for our CUPS drivers?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Keiichi,

In 10.3 PSU "add printer" window is tied to Tioga drivers.
Use lpadmin to add printer with CUPS driver.

Hi all,

I wrote CUPS driver for our raster printer.
The supported interfaces are AppleTalk (PAP) and Rendezvous.

I installed filters and PPDs, but our printers do not appear on PSU add
windows.
(The version of Mac OS X is 10.3.5)

The type of our printer is "FOO". The result of atlookup is:

   % atlookup
   ff00.d8.80 MODEL100:FOO

And the 'product' of Rendezvous TXT Record is:

   product=(BAR PRINTER FOO)

I tried the following 3 types of *Product keyword inside our PPDs.

   1.
       *Product: "(FOO)"

   2.
       *Product: "(BAR PRINTER FOO)"

   3.
       *Product: "(MODEL100)"

All of them not work.

On AppleTalk add panel, our printers are not shown on the printer list.
Only "LaserWriter" printers are shown.

On Rendezvous add panel, our printers are shown.
But "Driver not installed" is shown on the status field, and the
PPD-selection menu is disabled.

What's problem?

I believe our PPDs are installed correctly under /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj, because the PPDs can be selected manually for LaserWriter printers.

I also wrote Tioga driver for the printer. In this case, the printer type values are set as:

 PrinterBrowserInfoValue: "FOO"
 PrinterBrowserDeviceIDValue: "MFG:BAR CORPORATION;MDL:BAR PRINTER FOO"

This works well for both AppleTalk and Rendezvous.
Our printers are shown and the type is selected correctly on PSU add
windows.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
