Re: Preview and Save as PDF suddenly disabled in print dialog

(Note that the best mechanism for reporting problems that you consider important to address is to report Radar bugs.)

You'll find that the PostScript file produced in this circumstance can't be distilled by Adobe Distiller or turned into PDF by Preview. This is the same behavior you will obtain from Adobe Acrobat as well.

The intent by both Acrobat and Preview is keep the user from creating a new unencrypted PDF from an encrypted PDF therefore removing any password protection that might exist on the file.

Maybe...I found an another bug in this function.
I made a PDF which is encrypted by "pdftk" with allowing brosing and
printing. My OS is Mac OS X 10.3.7.
http://www.accesspdf.com/pdftk/
Preview.app can open it with password.
When I use print command from menu bar, print dialog appears with preview
and save as PDF buttons are gray out. Good! This is the action we expected.
But I select Output Option popup on print dialog and check the check-box
"save as file", we will find a gray-outed "PDF" menu and NOT-gray-outed
"PostScript" menu.
We can save encrypted PDF as a PostScript.
The PostScript file could be browsed by MacGhostScript application with any
password.
I think it is awful situation.

Hi,
The typical reason those items are disabled and unavailable is because
the PDF document you are printing in Preview is encrypted and therefore
has various permissions associated with it. However, this should not
carry over to other documents in Preview (unless they are also
encrypted) or to other applications.
I wonder if you've created a preset that has inadvertently captured
this setting. Please check whether this might be the case.
If it turns out to be a preset problem OR it turns out that you can
continue to reproduce this with other apps besides Preview, please file
a bug. If it is a preset problem, supply your presets file
(~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist) with your
bug report so we can investigate it.

For some reason, the Preview and Save as PDF buttons on my development
machine have become disabled. Appears to be in all applications and
rebooting doesn't help. Any thoughts?
