Maybe use the Carbon or Cocoa routines for getting the process list
and look for PSUs bundle id?

How to check whether Printer Setup Utility is alive or not?
Running ps -e doesn’t give me anything.
Probably not the most elegant way, but what about this:
ps auxww | grep "Printer Setup Utility"
This even runs on my german system as the core executable is a
binary with a fixed (english) name. But maybe there are better ways
to determine if PSU is launched...
Hope that helps

There's an old proverb that says just about whatever you want it to.
