Awesome - thanks! That did the trick. Not something the average user
would be likely to find, but we can certainly document around it!
Btw, while we're at it, you may be interested to know that 10.5
reintroduces a bug that was first introduced in 10.4, then fixed in
10.4.3: If the URI scheme provided to the lpd backend is not one of
the five known types ("lpd://", "http://" et al), the backend
defaults to using port 0, causing an error. Again, not a biggie
(because you can explicitly specify the port in your URI), but
probably needs to be fixed again.
See 4135084 in the Bug Reporter. I have updated the bug with a
comment, but it's still listed as Closed. Perhaps I need to raise a
new one?
Peace,
Tobias

Hey List,
One of our products comes with a custom backend. In Tiger, to add
a printer using this backend, you'd open the Printer Browser, hold
down the Option key and click "More Printers...". In the resulting
sheet, you would select "Advanced" from the popup menu at the top,
then select your custom backend from the "Device" popup menu.
In Leopard, it looks like this feature has been removed. Instead,
"More Printers" has become a toolbar item, and it looks like this
feature now requires you to write a custom Printer Browser?
No, however you *do* have to customize the toolbar (right click or
CTRL+click and choose Customize Toolbar) - drag the Advanced button
onto the toolbar.
Then click on the Advanced button to enter a device URI.
