Printer "quit behavior" in Tiger vs. Leopard

Support staff have mentioned to me that there seems to be a change in the
"quit behavior" of printer queues that appear in the Dock between Tiger and
Leopard -- and perhaps even between earlier versions of Tiger and later
versions (or perhaps computer-specific releases, like the iMac aluminum's)
of that OS.

Specifically, in Tiger, printer queues would appear in the Dock and then
quit (disappearing from the Dock) when printing was done. If the printer
queue was brought to the foreground, it stayed open. In later Tiger versions
and Leopard, the print queues stay open until quit manually. There is also
an option in the Dock menu, I'm told, for them to quit when finished.

Is this the behavior we should be expecting? Did it change in Tiger, as we
believe we've seen? Did it change, or change further, in Leopard? Has it
been documented so we know what to expect?

Thanks!
