Re: FxPlugs UI in FCP and Motion different

Hi Peder,

I understand FCP does not support paramter groups, right?
But Motion does, right?

Right. FCP shows the grouped parameters visually, but does not allow opening and closing with a disclosure control.

And both are FxPlug. That does not make sense.

Fair enough. :-)

When will you fix so FCP supports grouping? :)

I suppose you could hack something together that would implement the Group titles as a custom-UI control, and in response to clicking on it, you could hide or unhide the grouped parameters. But that would be a hack, and it would become unnecessary some day when FCP finally supports opening and closing groups. So I wouldn't recommend it.

Darrin, is this you being lazy? :) just kidding, I know you are top notch. I forgot if you work on Motion or FCP?

Darrin's on the Motion team, so he's off the hook there. :-)

Do you in any way in FCP show grouping hints (like a subject and thicker border) or do you just skip the grouping as defined in the FxPlug API?

Yes, as of FCP 6.

Do you support (I'd like to know answers for both FCP and Motion):
Enabling/Disabling of params? (grey out and unusable)

Yes in both.

Supervising (setting a param in response to user changing some other param)

Yes in both. There were some restrictions here in earlier versions. Details can be found in the FxHostCapabilities.h header.

As you understand this is a request to make the FxPlug implementations of Motion and FCP to behave the same, and for now, let me know the differences so I can make good UI's for the users.

And thanks for using the public list!

Dave
