Re: In Rip Separations

Features like in-rip separation, OPI comments, and the like are not part of the Quartz imaging model and, as a result, the CGContext API does not support them. Consider, for example, the concept of sending in-rip separation commands and/or spot colors to a CGContext attached to a window... it doesn't make much sense.

<x-tad-bigger>in fairness, quartz is designed for printing as much as it is for rendering to a screen. </x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger>CGContextBeginPage() and CGContextEndPage() don't make much sense going to a screen. and quartz will render DeviceN and Separation colors in a pdf, and it will preserve DeviceN and Separation colors, it simply doesn't allow creating them currently.

</x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger>but even simply considering cmyk (or rgb), this seems to be an issue that will be driven more by the needs of the cups printing path than anything else. there's little need for quartz to generate separated pdf by default, but the cups filters cgpdftops or cgpdftopdf may [need to] generate separated pdf depending on what requirements the printer ppd specifies. so this is more specific to the printing path.</x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger>
