Yeah, it's more of a diagnostic thing -- I wanted to put in some asserts to see if something upstream of my code is changing it where I don't expect it to be. I do explicitly save gstate, change aa, restore gstate, but it's nice to be able to query for these kinds of state.

In general, there are no getters for items in the GState.  Instead, you
save the GState, set them to the value you want, and when you're done
you restore the GState.
