I have been exploring Core Image recently and have been a little
surprised at the slowness of it. I am working on a 2 x 2 gig G5
with nvidia GeForce fx 5200 and a 1 gHz power book with nvidia
GeForce fx 5200 go. System profiler tells me that my video cards
support CoreImage.
I've had similar results on high-end hardware. I have some effects
code that runs in Altivec through vImage and I reimplemented it in
CoreImage. I've found that the CI solution runs at about half the
speed of the vImage solution on a G5-2.5GHz/DP with a GeForce 6800
Ultra card while using more CPU time.
