Re: Serious performance issue when windows overlap with Quartz Composer or OpenGL windows

I have been noticing that my G5 DP 2.5 Ghz slows down to extremes when I have a Quartz Composer Viewer window open and another window partly overlaps it. The Finder feels like 10.0 on a G3 266Mhz (or actually worse) in such cases. I also see it with certain game windows, for example, when Kill Monty (http://www.freeverse.com/ killmonty/) is used in windowed mode. Even when the game is not being played (it is showing the high scores page) and a Finder window partly overlaps my machine slows down. On 10.3.8 doing the exact same has no negative impact on speed.

This is an issue on Tiger when a window overlaps an OpenGL context. It appears to be a bug in the beam sync that Tiger enables by default, because if you disable beam sync in Quartz Debug everything works fine again.

Reality is what, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
Failure is not an option. It is a privilege reserved for those who try.
