that's not necessarily the video card, but can be a CPU limit or disk throughput too

cpu use reported by activity monitor fluctuates between 25% and 45%. for a dual-cpu system this number can go up to 200% for multthreaded applications.
quartz-composer reports a number jumping between 40 and 99% cpu use, so i'm not sure which i should trust.

i tested and succecfully played upto 6 DV files at the same time in quickmtime player, so i asume the disk is not the bottleneck. with a 7th file playing it starts stuttering.

i asume when running all rendering on the displaylink-thread, multithreading is only happening on system-leven with quicktime decoding the DV. so is it possible the displaylink thread is choked?

thanks

The 6600 is a pretty weak graphics card. Upgrade to a 7800 or better.

Also you will need at least a single fast SATA dedicated disk to play 3 DV layers
(seperate from the system disk).
