image ports

My question on this topic before didn't get answered, so I'll try to phrase it differently:

When one sets a port with an NSImage, does it get retained or copied?

I assume copied, but I'm having memory leak issues around this, and I'd like to rule out some interaction between my app and the QCRenderer.
