Re: performance of core image filters on a new ibook

For simple titling, Motion worked great. But, for more extended titling sequences and motion graphics, Motion seemed too buggy for my taste. Perhaps this has been corrected in version 2? I've been using a program called Mirage, from Bauhaus software (http:// www.bauhaussoftware.com). It just depends on whether or not speed is an issue for you.

Addressing Roger's concern, I'm not sure if it will work on the new iBooks, as the 9550 video card isn't on the list of supported hardware for Motion.

Has anyone else tried this on an iBook?

Why is that ? I have seen so many pre motion programs use the CG card just fine to show eye candy and graphics. Hell the old Pixel Shox ran on ibooks.
ps. sorry if this message posted twice

I haven't tried the new ibook, but as for Motion on an iBook, I probably wouldn't recommend it. I was using Motion on a dual 2.5 PowerMac with 2 gigs of ram and a beefy vid card and the program still choked on occasion. Maybe this has been resolved in version 2, but I suspect that 32MB of VRAM isn't enough to do a whole lot of realtime work with Motion.

has anyone tried the performance of core image filters using Quartz Composer on a new ibook with the 32MB Radeon 9550?

I believe this chip does support the full range of pixel shaders and
should be accelerated but slower than a full 9600.....

And I know this is a long shot but does anyone know if these machines
will run Motion?

thanks
