quartz composer + quartz 2d + quicktime

I'm currently wishing to take my quartz composer composition and add to it some Quartz2D that I would write in obj-c. What is the best way to do this? Should I pass to quartz 2d the same opengl context that I would to qcrenderer?

Also, if I want to take the composition and be able to record its output into a quicktime movie, whats the best programmatic way? My composition is interactive so I can't use iMovie or quartz composer... plus I want it to be overlayed with the quartz 2d. I noticed that I can publish the image output and take its nsimage, which I can then draw to with Quartz2D and pipe the data into quicktime. This seems like there would be unnecessary overhead with it, but I don't know of any other way.
