Accessing OTHER system parameters?

I really like Quartz Composer's ability to act upon information being fed into it. I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get other system stats in (such as network traffic, ps -axrco pid,%cpu,command , mail messages waiting, etc) thru the javascript patch, but it seems the patch won't execute shell commands.

are there any add on modules to gather this type of information, or can someone show me how to execute a shell command from the javascript patch?
