Debugging Core Image Kernel

I am working on a Core Image Kernel patch, and need to print out some values so I can track down why my math is not correct. Is there a way to do this? Or do I need to completely duplicate my implementation outside the Kernel patch, debug it, and then rewrite it in the Kernel patch? In the archives there was some tips on printing patch values using JavaScript and the log but I am pretty sure that will not help here since I am in a kernel routine.
