movie folder / spotlight / rss hack

Folder Images and Spotlight Images only return static, single frame images and not quicktime movies. It would be helpful if they did return movies or if there was an object to do this. I am creating an installation and looking to have a folder full of videos and always be able to grab the latest n movies from a folder, but I can't figure out how to do it easily. Since I'm using two computers networked for this installation, one to record video (max+jitter) and one to play & composite (hopefully QC), I could theoretically write a little script on the recording computer that would generate a RSS feed containing the would-be path of a movie and then have QC watch that. That seems like a huge hack to me, though. Anyone have any other ideas?

As a side note, it would be really awesome to be able to specify more descriptive spotlight queries, such as:
(kMDItemContentTypeTree = 'public.movie') && kMDItemLastUsedDate >= $time.today(-7))
