How to tell if Quartz Composer will work?

Hi folks,

I discovered last week at WWDC that Quartz Composer won't run on my older PowerBook. (Not enough VRAM). OK, fair enough, but I'm using QC in my application to render (not real time) some still graphics. I know that Core Image will automatically fall back to the CPU if the GPU can't handle the task. I'm guessing, since the rendering of the QC images silently failed, that this is not happening with QC!

So my question is -- is there some way to force the CPU to render the single-frame QC compositions if needed; if not, what API can I use to tell specifically that QC is not supported on the machine I'm running, so that my application can know that QC will not work, and come up with an alternative plan?

Dan
