I realise now that the .qtx file is stored within the .nib (although not obvious from docs), so now my basic problem is this.
1. Do a debug build of my app. 2. Copy the build app to another place 3. Clean All from Xcode 4. Run copy of debug app. Boom! (as SJ likes to say :-)
This doesn't happen with Release builds, which lead me to believe that the .qtx file wasn't being copied into the debug bundle (although I now know that isn't true).
Crash log attached (and reported to Apple), but if I don't clean the debug build before running the copy, I see from lsof that a file in the build area is open, like:
.../Debug/CubeInvaders.app/Contents/MacOS/CubeInvaders
.../CubeInvaders.build/Debug/CubeInvaders.build/Objects-normal/ppc/ main.ob
The fist line is the running app, the second, a file from the intermediate build area.
I'm now leaning toward "this is not a quartzcomposer" problem, but a general issue with debug builds from xcode...
