QC Interface with graphics card

 Hi,

Could someone tell me what is the interface between the Quartz compositor output and the graphics card  ?  The documentation says QC output is given as a openGL object when Quartz Extreme is available. Is it given as OpenGL object to the card even when there is no hardware acceleration ?
