Alternative install locations for .plugins?

Has anyone found any other places you can put .plugin files, other than /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/ Frameworks/QuartzComposer.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ ?

Would be nice not to have to mess around in the System folder for this sort of stuff...
