In the example above the image dimensions are 431 wide by 5307. The original image is available here:

Quartz Composer does not tile images when rendering them, so the image has to be able to fit into the maximum supported texture size on the video card: usually 2048 or 4096 on high-end cards. If it does not fit, QC will rescale the image so that it does, and this results in quality degradation
