Re: how to dissolve videos back and forth without looping?

One way to generate a random number is to use a random patch with an external timebase and a variability set to 1.
Feed a counter into the patch time of the random and fire a signal into the counter each time you need a random number.
this may just be a bit less complicated (Though i like your style :)

Also, what do you mean by you cannot "make controlled dissolves back and forth and also control the rest time of a video between the dissolves?"
It seems like you could do this with an interpolator with loop set to none whose time base is driven by a stop watch triggered by your note.
You could then move some of the logic from midiPipe into QC.

hi alessandro,
i use motion capturing on a webcam to trigger the dissolves, as i cannot make controlled dissolves back and forth and also control the rest time of a video between the dissolves i have decided to control all values using applescript steering midipipe. it works like a charm and i am very happy that this trick does its job well.

1. when a motion is detected, my applescript starts to work and starts midipipe.

2. through applescript i tell midipipe to send a first note with increasing velocity to dissolve from my base video to the multiplexed random video. i can also control the time of the dissolve through the programmed loop just by adding delay times for every loop.

3. i send a note with full velocity to remain on the "ON" state of the dissolve. again i use delay to control the resting time of the multiplexed video.

4. i send a note with decreasing velocity and again a delay in the loop to dissolve back to my base video.

5. i reset all notes to zero.

6. i send a note to reset a stopwatch controlling the random patch that drives my multiplexer.

7. i send a note to start the stopwatch (random patch starts to work).

8. i send a note top stop the stopwatch (random patch is on a random value and stays there)

now, when another motion is being detected, i have a new video that has been randomly chosen as my multiplexed video :)

i hope i have explained not to fuzzy....

best regards, daniel

Hi Daniel. I'm not sure i'm following. Why are you are using applescript->midiPipe to control a dissolve?

thank you for the file MJ, it helped to get new ideas.

i now use an applescript controlling midiPipe, using a "for to" loop increasing the velocity of a note to start the dissolve and another loop doing the opposite to dissolve back. the random chosen video i do control also through that script. good that i can steer QC using MIDI. i do not think this would have been possible without MIDI.

thank you for your fast answer again!
